Don't get caught by the AQHA NSAID rule change:
AQHA has modified their 2008 drug policy to further limit use of NSAIDS.
Page 126 of the Show Rules, Section (3)(B) states, “ Regardless of whether all of the conditionally permitted therapeutic medication requirements for a specific NSAID listed in section (3)(C)(1-8) below are met, it shall be considered a rule violation if the same plasma or urine sample contains more than one (1) of the NSAIDs listed in section (3)(C)(1-8)”
This rule change eliminates the ability of veterinarians to “stack” NSAIDS for treating soreness, and further challenges the exhibitor, who must bring a sound horse to the show ring within the prohibited substance mandate.
Many veterinarians and horsemen are beginning to use
PERFEGESIC, a new oral, non prescription “equine comfort
enhancer.” PERFEGESIC employs a university-proven
pain relief pathway to manage chronic equine pain
issues. PERFEGESIC offers an effective non-NSAID
alternative to traditional comfort therapy, without any
of the drawbacks associated with common pain relieving
drugs.
